Student/Teacher of the Month

Once upon a time, in the bustling city of West OKC, a group of dedicated Rotarians came together with a vision to make a positive impact on their community. The Rotary Club members, known for their unwavering commitment to service, compassion, and education, decided to take their efforts to a whole new level.
During a Rotary Club meeting, an idea was born. Inspired by Rotary International's theme for the year 2023-2024, "Creating Hope in the World," the West OKC Rotary Club decided to launch a new initiative to honor outstanding students and teachers in their community.

Dale Rogers Training Center

Dale Rogers Training Center, Inc. (DRTC) supports people with disabilities through paid vocational training, in-house programs, and work opportunities as well as competitive community employment. DRTC’s vision statement reads “People with Disabilities Having Access to Training and Employment”. They are celebrating their 70th year anniversary this year. The West Oklahoma City Rotary had the opportunity to lend a hand by passing out water and DJ’ing their end of the year party. We danced, we laughed, and some of the DRTC members even sang karaoke!

Hal Alman Scholar 2023, Pauls Valley HS

A true shining star of the Pauls Valley Panthers class of '23 is Hal Almen Scholarship recipient, Miss Phoenix Meyer.  I had the opportunity to speak with her prior to the start of the ceremony.  She is very smart, engages well in conversation, exhibits leadership qualities, and is loved by her fellow students.

Here's a little inside info on Pauls Valley, and their senior class.  Pauls Valley doesn't have a top-tier economy compared to many other cities and small towns in Oklahoma.  In fact, over 70% of the school's students qualify for either the free lunch, or the reduced lunch cost program.  That is almost 20% higher than the state average. The class is understandably small with just over 80 graduating seniors this year.  That said, almost half of the senior class maintained a 3.8 or higher GPA, and Pauls Valley HS maintains one of the highest graduation rates in all of Oklahoma.

What's your answer when you're asked, "what is Rotary?"

What's your answer when you're asked, "what is Rotary?"
Do you reply “Well, um, we meet once a week and hear speakers. . . and we do service. . . and oh, we are eradicating polio.”

Jessica Sherrill, Rotary District 5750 Governor (2018-2019) recently shared Rotary's  answer:

Rotary joins leaders to exchange ideas to take action to create lasting change
- across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

So, there you have it; a pat answer you can share with those ask! Invite your friends to be world changers with you.
