Message from the President

Hi, and welcome to the West Oklahoma City Rotary Club!   My name is Dea Dietrick Wood, and I'd like to invite you in for a while.

If you enjoy good food, having fun, and enjoy like-minded camaraderie, we're the people you'll want to spend time with.  We invite you to stick around and see how much fun it is to be a Rotarian in our club. Your membership here means something you can be proud of.

We celebrated our 52nd birthday on June 26, 2020, and currently have 47 active members, one being a Charter member! Most of our members attend one or more Service Above Self projects annually, and more than 50% are on one team or another.  We are very generous with our time and resources, and this past year, we teamed together with other Rotary groups and raised a generous amount of $$$ to fund a water sanitation project in Macuelizo, Honduras, to provide access to safe drinking water, hand washing stations, and educational initiatives. We are making an impact in a difficult world.

Our goal is to benefit the lives of others through local projects as well as State-wide service. Each year we award 23 to 24 — $4,000 scholarships from a 1.6 million dollar donation donated by Hal Almen, our Charter President. 2021 will be our seventeenth year of scholarships, and to date, as of May 2020, we have awarded 328 scholarships to graduating seniors totaling more than $1,312,000.00.

􏰊Our 2020-21year is dedicated to serving marginalized children. In addition to annual donations to The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital; Dale Rogers Training Center; March Of Dimes; Salvation Army, and Santa's Cause, plus a host of other non-profit entities, we will support the Police Truancy Department by providing Lice Kits; Vizavance, a non-profit whose primary goal is to advance children's education through better vision and Feed the Children by providing necessary meals.  􏰢􏰈􏰍􏰉Children are our hope for the future.􏰾􏰇􏰊􏰠􏰈􏰫 􏰝􏰇􏰉􏰢 􏰾􏰇􏰟􏰝􏰍􏰉􏰷 􏰟􏰊􏰇􏰊􏰍􏰅􏰉􏰟 􏰇􏰉􏰢 􏰦􏰋􏰖􏰧 􏰠􏰢􏰜􏰎􏰇􏰊􏰍􏰅􏰉􏰇􏰄 􏰍􏰉􏰍􏰊􏰍􏰇􏰊􏰍􏰯􏰠􏰟􏰿

􏰌􏰈􏰅􏰯􏰍􏰢􏰠􏰟􏰇􏰤Also, we practice to be a people of integrity, goodwill, and peace through providing services and opportunities to one another in our business relationships, holding to Rotary's moral code through the Four-Way Test: "Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it is beneficial to all concerned? and lastly for the West Oklahoma City Rotary Club, "is it fun? And yes, it is!

We hope you'll stop by, spend a few weeks with us here in the heart of the historic Oklahoma City Stockyards, and get to know our members.
